A Story That Began with a Bicycle
At Meyland Smith, we believe that mobility is more than movement — it’s freedom, dignity, and connection to the world around us. For more than 120 years, we’ve been crafting solutions that help people live more independently, with products designed to empower every step of the way.
Founded in 1901, Meyland Smith started out building bicycles at a time when two wheels meant freedom. But as the world around us grew, so did our understanding. We realized that for many, that freedom was out of reach. It was this realization that steered us toward designing mobility aids specifically for those with physical challenges. Our mission became clear: helping everyone move through life on their own terms.
One of our early milestones was creating wheelchairs and adapted vehicles back in the 1920s, decades before “accessibility” became a household word. If you’ve ever watched the classic Danish TV series Matador, you’ve seen our work in action — a quiet symbol of our enduring commitment.
Today, Meyland Smith is best known for our walking aids and person lifts, which are trusted by people of all ages worldwide. Products like the VELA Meywalk and VELA Buddy Roamer aren’t just about getting from point A to point B — they’re about giving users the ability to stand taller, engage more fully, and experience life with confidence.
The Meywalk, born out of a father’s love for his daughter with cerebral palsy, has been a cornerstone of our journey. Adjustable, supportive, and thoughtfully designed, it encourages natural movement and muscle stimulation — the kind of details that can make a world of difference.
For our younger adventurers, the Buddy Roamer grows with the child, supporting not only physical development but also their curiosity and spirit.
